Everyone has seen the GRAMMYs on TV, but Jenn R. from Nashville, TN, saw it all go down in person. From the red carpet to backstage, she’s giving us all the details of music’s biggest night—including THAT Beyoncé performance we’re all still recovering from.
How did it feel walking the red carpet?
Oh my gosh, it was so fun. I’ve never walked a red carpet before but it was just kind of a rush. Everyone taking your photo and yelling your name and telling you to look at them. One guy was like, “Less teeth!” and I was like, “Listen dude, I’m having a blast here. I’m going to show all my teeth.”
What was your favorite part of the experience?
The MusiCares show was my favorite. They let everybody go right up front at the end of the show and Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks performed. We were like two feet from the stage! I’m a huge, huge fan of both of them, they’re legends, so that was just mind-blowing to be standing that close to them and hearing them sing.
Did you meet any other celebrities at the show?
We ran into Jakob Dylan, but we didn’t talk to him. We were too starstruck. We also danced next to Helen Mirren during the Tom Petty tribute, but we didn’t notice because we were so focused on Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks. Ringo Starr was also there and we got a glimpse of him.
Well, we’ve got to ask—how was the Beyoncé performance?
It gave me chills. She looked stunning. I thought it was beautiful. After the performance, it was interesting to watch her come into the audience and sit down. Every time there was a commercial break, her stylist would run from the back of the arena to come fix her hair and makeup.
You can’t be a VIP without swag. Did you get to bring back any goodies?
We got the GRAMMYs gift bag, which was unbelievable. There was so much stuff in it, I was worried we wouldn’t be able to get it home on the plane. I got the Tom Petty vinyl box set, which was my favorite thing. The gift bag was like a large duffle bag that I could fit in. There was also a suitcase plus another GRAMMYs gift bag that everyone got after the show. We definitely got a little spoiled.
Any last words to share with your fellow Omazers?
Meeting all the people who worked at MusiCares was really cool. They’re all doing such good work and they made us feel so welcome. Seeing the people they helped and seeing how kind and supportive that whole team is in the music community was really cool.
Sounds like it was an unforgettable night. We’re so happy you got to experience the GRAMMYs like the VIP that you are, Jenn. Thanks so much for supporting MusiCares, and excuse us while we go re-watch Beyoncé’s performance.
