The Anti-Recidivism Coalition Is Changing Lives

| comments

Everyone who donated for the chance to win a trip on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express helped the Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) end mass incarceration in California. Thanks to your incredible support, countless lives are changing for the better. Here’s one person’s story.

Dear Omazer,

In January 2018, I was released on an ankle monitor program for the last 2 months of my sentence. Getting back on my feet was so scary, I didn’t know where to begin. I spoke with a life coach at the Anti-Recidivism Coalition and he told me to come for an orientation and just keep showing up.

Within two weeks, I had attended several life skills classes, had a real resume, participated in the career readiness workshop and had a life coach of my own. ARC became part of my daily life. One day I went to check in and there was a group interview for a Community Health Worker position at St. John’s Well Child & Family Center. I ran to the computer lab, printed out my resume, sat down just as the interview was beginning and got the job!

Two and a half years later, I have an amazing career helping those who are returning to the community enroll in integrated health services. With agencies like ARC providing these kinds of second chances for judicially impacted people, and generous folks like you supporting this life-changing work, there’s hope for the future.

Thank you,
