Back in February we teamed up with the LA Clippers to give one lucky winner an all-access game experience to benefit the 2015 Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles. But the Special Olympics athletes are so incredible, we decided to do an extra special something for them.
We reached out to the Special Olympics and asked if they knew any athletes who were big Clippers fans. We met Tairek, a 14-year old with reactive airway disease. He was so sweet and such a passionate fan, we knew that he and the Clippers would make a perfect team.
We told Tairek he was just headed to a game, but we had more in store. First, Austin Rivers surprised him at the gates! He invited Tairek to sit in on the Clippers’ pre-game practice and Tairek was pumped.
The whole team was quick to make Tairek feel welcomed—bumping fists, cracking jokes, and even making him an honorary teammate. Blake Griffin also hooked him up with an exclusive pair of signed shoes from his own line.
One of the most amazing things to witness was Tairek’s transformation throughout the day. At first he was very shy and quiet, but by the time the game rolled around, Tairek was the loudest fan there!
Check out this video of Tairek’s day as a Clipper:
Tairek’s day with the Clippers helped us generate a lot of excitement and awareness for the winner experience. The campaign came to a close, and Mark and his friend J. Michael from Johnstown, PA won the chance to hang out with Chris Paul, Doc Rivers and the Clippers for an all-access game experience. They had a great time, and we loved getting to make three dreams come true!
