June is LGBTQA Pride Month (the A is newer—it stands for asexual, ally, advocate or all). While there’s a lot to be proud of, there are still many ways we can support LBGTQA youth. Here’s our list of what to read, watch, do, give and buy to lend a helping hand. Have other ideas? We want to know—hook us up with a comment, please!
READ: Looking to lounge on the beach with a page-turner? Read The Gay Revolution: The Story of the Struggle by Lillian Faderman and The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson.
WATCH: Feeling a movie marathon to beat the heat? Tune into any (or all) of these choices: The Way He Looks, How to Survive a Plague, Paris is Burning, For the Bible Tells Me So, The Celluloid Closet, Moonlight, and Geography Club.
DO: Time to break out all the color in your wardrobe! Wear rainbow, find your local Pride parade or march, or urge your local governor to support trans students by writing a letter. You can find regional and virtual ways to volunteer, too!
GIVE: Check out some of the incredible causes we’ve worked with that support LGBTQA youth: GLAAD, True Colors Fund, Equality NC, Equality Texas and Human Rights Campaign. What are your favorite organizations that support equality?
BUY: Spend while giving back by shopping at Blue Stockings Boutique, Revel and Riot, Tie the Knot and LALGBT Center. We might be a little biased, but we have some pretty cool exclusive Omaze t-shirts that support a variety of causes benefiting LGBTQA rights too…
