Give it up for your winner Jose! He flew to Vegas, attended the HBO pre-fight party and sat VIP at the Canelo vs. Chávez Jr. fight. Keep on reading to find out which boxing royalty he met backstage.
So… tell us all about it!
I didn’t really believe it. There was a part of me that wouldn’t let me believe this was happening, like it was a prank or something. It’s surreal. Even now I think about it and I’m like, “wow, I was in Vegas a week ago.”
How was the HBO pre-fight party?
That was great! There were waiters walking around with wine glasses, hor d’oeuvres and desserts. You were able to go to the bar and order whatever you wanted.
What was it like at the weigh-in?
We were able to meet so many other cool people backstage. We met Michael Buffer, Bernard Hopkins… Dave Chappelle was there. All these people were walking by and we took pictures with them.
While we were there, I sort of felt like a celebrity. We were able to skip the line, which was literally outside the MGM and all around the corner. We sat directly in front of the stage at the weigh-in, which was surreal. It was like a dream come true.
What was it like meeting Canelo Alvarez?
He was really down to earth. We didn’t really talk much because of the weigh-in but he introduced himself and took pictures with us. That was really nice of him.
How was the fight?
Actually being there live for a fight was really cool. When someone got hit, you could actually see the sweat knocked off their face. It was in a new arena so that was really cool, too.
Highlight of the trip?
It’s hard to pinpoint one thing. When I got back to New York and had the opportunity to think about what happened, it just felt like a dream. I’m a huge boxing fan and being able to meet, for lack of a better word, boxing royalty, was just like a dream come true.
