July Cause: Refugee Awareness

| comments

To honor the courage, strength and determination of the people who are forced to flee their homeland under threat of persecution, conflict and violence, we’re dedicating the month of July to refugee awareness. Here’s our list of what to read, watch, listen, do, give and buy to lend a helping hand. Have other ideas? We want to know—hook us up with a comment, please!

READ: Looking to gain insight and understanding into the refugee experience? Take a look at this list of novels curated by Signature Reads. Feeling a shorter read? Check out these articles to learn more about the current refugee crisis:

WATCH: Rather watch a movie? Check out these films: The White Helmets, Cries from Syria, The Promise, In This World, Dheepan, Salam Neighbor, Children of Men

LISTEN: To hear from refugees about their personal experiences, listen to Narratio, a podcast dedicated to empowering youth and refugees to share their stories. To keep up with the refugee crisis, get a free subscription to The Daily.

DO: Pledge your support to the cause through The UN Refugee Agency, write a letter to Congress to abandon the Muslim and Refugee Ban, and learn about other ways to help refugees worldwide.

GIVE: If you’re looking to donate to a humanitarian relief organization, look into the International Rescue Committee, Armenian General Benevolent Union and ShareTheMeal.

BUY: Check out GAIA, a fashion line dedicated to empowering female refugees, and support local businesses owned by refugees.

Did we miss your favorite thing to read, watch, listen, do, give and buy to support refugees? Share it with us in the comments.
